Historical Notes
The hotel has 686 luxurious guest rooms, including 86 suites and 35 Business rooms, many offering city views. The hotel will complete an extensive rejuvenation of all rooms, restaurants, meeting rooms and suites in fall 2001, in conjunction with its 75th anniversary. It will also be reclaiming its original Barclay name.
The hotel will bring a heightened level of personalized service and style with its elegant, residential design and state-of-the-art in-room facilities. The guest rooms have been designed to be interchangeable as a comfortable, stylish home setting to that of a home office setting with accessible components. Custom-made desks were built to fit each room's individual design to make it spacious, fully flexible and adaptable for professional and any practical use. Each room is furnished with dual-line telephones, voicemail and modem hook-up capability and the newest addition of centralized heating and air conditioning throughout. Spacious and well-appointed marble bathrooms feature telephones, make-up mirrors, scales, terry-cloth robes and hand-held hairdryers.

Historical Notes
- 1926 - Originally known as The Barclay, the hotel opened in November under the aegis of the Vanderbilt family. Popular in social circles, it was the most luxurious hotel built by the New York Central Railroad and one of the most glamorous and elegant hotels in Manhattan
- 1938 - The Cornell Club moves into the entire 3rd floor. It would stay for 12 years. Other Ivy League schools have called The Barclay home over the years
- 1945 - The famous Lobby birdcage made its debut, the first of its kind
- 1978 - InterContinental Hotels purchased The Barclay, restoring it at a cost of $32 million, becoming the Hotel InterContinental New York in 1982
- 1995 - $20 million restoration of the hotel's public areas, including a restoration of the Lobby, featuring Tennessee marble floors, Tiffany-style skylights and original cornices and ceilings
- 2001 - As part of its 75th anniversary celebration and multimillion dollar rejuvenation, the hotel is reclaiming its roots by renaming the hotel InterContinental The Barclay New York
